A summary of the history of Christo van Wyk, one of two of the company's directors at Van Wyk Matabane Attorneys.
Christo van Wyk was admitted as an attorney in 1987. In 33 years he has developed a significant client base of listed corporations and notable unlisted companies which play significant roles in the South African economy. A specialist in litigation, Christo van Wyk built his practice to successfully manage and run an average of five trials per month. Under his leadership he has a successful track record of losing only four trials in 33 years. This can be recognized as a formidable achievement. This success he attributes to his detailed attention to the macro picture and minutiae and his vast knowledge of the respective litigation fields. All information is examined and weighted to maximize positive results.

He was the trusted attorney for the RAMM partnership between Omnia, the AECI, Foskor and Sasol for the importation and processing of ammonia at Richards Bay. He is noted for his finely honed expertise in negotiating with government and the drafting of all legal documents forming the basis for the erection of the Ammonia Nitrate plant in Sasol. He was involved in the logistical issues relating to the transport of ammonia to the plant. The capital investment of the project was estimated at R2bn.
R145 mn. is one of his larger negotiated settlements. This and other settlements have earned him a reputation as an expert negotiator driving for client interests.
Christo’s legal services have extended throughout South Africa as well as the global economy and have earned the respect of colleagues for delivery beyond expectations. Legal services have also extended to banking and finance, mining and energy, fossil fuel, the environment, all aspects of health care, construction, engineering, corporate restructuring, commercial and corporate law.
Christo is in demand as a lecturer and expert on the Consumer Protection Act, the National Credit Act, Procedural and Insurance law
